New Class at Masjid Al - Noor, Limerick

Alhamdulillah. Many thanks to brother Isaa (committee member of Masjid Al - Noor, Limerick). After discussions and long wait, the new class of Silat Seni Gayong is now running at Masjid Al - Noor with first intake of 6 members. They are teenagers between 11 to 17 years old. After the first 3 weeks, the number of members was gradually increased to 10. Insya Allah there are more to come to join us. This class got very positive feedback from Muslim community around Limerick as they showing interest to know more about this martial art and I got few request to open class for adults.

The class is running on Friday and Saturday start 7.30 pm and finish 8.30 pm at second floor Masjid Al - Noor. The training hour will change depend on the current season. The schedule will be updated accordingly.

Silat Seni Gayong Ireland (SSGI) welcoming any martial art fan out there or anyone who are interested to join us.

Seminar @ University of Limerick

On 9 November 2011, Silat Seni Gayong Ireland was invited by UL Taekwando Club for Inrtoduction Silat Seni Gayong Seminar. The seminar was conducted at Press Building, University of Limerick start 9.00pm and ended at 10.40pm.

The seminar runs smoothly and started with introductions of Silat Seni Gayong and continue with basic movements. There are some of techniques that we can apply for avoid, block, defence and counter attacks. It is very simple and everybody can do it. Some 'buah' for bare-handed and knife also shared in this seminar. Even this seminar just run for 1 hour and 40 minutes, a lot of knowledges has been shared for all participants.

Many thanks to president and committee member UL Taekwando Club for invitation and cooperation for the success of this seminar. Hopefully can meet again and will share more knowledges together in the future.

History Gayong of Ireland

Silat Seni Gayong Ireland (SSGI) was formed by combining PSSGM Ireland, RCSI and Silat Gayong Club Limerick on April 2010. Now SSGI running in two cities in Ireland, there is Dublin at RCSI and Limerick.

Pertubuhan Silat Seni Gayong Malaysia (PSSGM) Ireland was created in year 2007 as sport society club in Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (RCSI). The idea is come from a group of Malay students studying at RCSI. PSSGM Ireland was started by 14 silat practitioners at the time. They started training and polishing the art of silat moves during their training sessions.

Among the members, they have no qualified instructors. PSSGM Ireland decided to invite Cikgu Shaiful Hakim Mohd Noor from Paris as instructor because he is the nearest they have. He is a student in Paris and also silat Gayong instructor at France.

PSSGM Ireland is participating in college events and performs special demonstration upon invitation from inside and outside college. Since our officially under RCSI, our club have proudly represented RCSI in various functions such as the Islamic Awareness Week in University College Dublin (UCD) and International Cultural Night at Trinity College Dublin (TCD). Our biggest achievement was being invited to perform at International Paris Open Pencak Silat (IPO) in Paris on March 2008.

When the new semester of 2008/2009, PSSGM Ireland has been frozen because misunderstanding of the RCSI officer for the training activities by using a real weapons. Budget proposal to run our club for this semester was declined from RCSI. We have a problem to cover up the expenses of Cikgu Shaiful Hakim to come and run the training as usual. Therefore, many members were losing their spirit and withdraw from PSSGM Ireland. Finally there are only few members remain. So PSSGM Ireland is not actively running anymore.

On October 2009, Cikgu Radzwan Razak aka Kumbang Hitam visited Ireland. Cikgu Anuar Ahmad currently working at Limerick. They met and discuss the future of Gayong in Ireland. As agreed they went to Dublin and track down PSSGM Ireland members where is still remain and they met Mohd Firdaus Che Ani, Presiden of PSSGM Ireland club in RCSI.

After discussion, Cikgu Radzwan and Cikgu Anuar agreed to give an assistance to activate Gayong in Ireland. An agreed to share the knowledge of Gayong to the remain members. At the same time Gayong Club Limerick was form on November 2009 and started the first training on 29 November 2009 concentrating mostly on Irish students.

In March 2010, Cikgu Radzwan has visited Ireland again for a seminar. We had the meeting and agreed to form Silat Seni Gayong Ireland (SSGI). The proposal was submitted to The Embassy of Malaysia in London. On that particular date, officially Gayong in Ireland was recognised as SILAT SENI GAYONG IRELAND.

At present SSGI was instructed and handle by Cikgu Anuar Ahmad.
